I did this summit 2 years ago with my college age son and it was awesome. I was 52. Your description and pics are very accurate and insightful. You may want to warn those who don't do a lot of the 14ers that it is pretty taxing to attempt both summits in one day. We had our hands full with the 6,000' of elevation increase/decrease from the Uncompahgre trailhead up from Nellie Creek Road. Although we did start later in the morning... We had great weather and the trail is realtively easy to navigate. I took some DVD footage looking straight down off the north face from the summit and it was quite the dizzying sight....
In any event, it was a very cool experience and your account brings back great memories.
